I am a petite woman (just in case you didn’t know this).
Though my personality makes me feel a lot taller, I’m 5ft tall in real life. I prayed to God to reach 5ft 2in but I stopped growing at 5ft. I’ve never let my height deter me from doing anything (I did long jump and triple jump all four years of high school) or deter me from dressing the way I want to dress. And when I revealed on Instagram that I was 5ft tall last week, people were really surprised.
So today, I want to encourage all my friends under 5ft 4in to be bold with their petite style. I’m sharing petite style tips to help you embrace the long oversized blazer trend this fall and winter season!
6 Petite Style Tips to Help You Wear
the Oversized Blazer
1. Don’t be afraid of the long oversized blazer
You might be concerned about anything oversized overwhelming your frame. But I’m here to tell you to not be afraid of oversized items –especially a blazer. The oversized blazer is a versatile item. You can wear it casually to brunch with jeans and boots or you can dress it up with a short dress to an event.
Oversized can either mean the coat is a small and it’s a boxier fit. Or it’s a thrifted blazer from Value Village and it’s is literally a size 10. The following tips will help you rock your oversized blazer.
2. Focus on fit: Cuff the long sleeves
Whether it’s a blazer or a cardigan, cuffing sleeves is a petite style tip I always use. Adjusting the sleeves to a proper length that fits your frame also makes you look stylish.
3. Wear heels
Whether it’s a kitten heel or a block heel, adding some sort of a heeled shoe will help elongate your legs. To further show off your shoes, wear a pair of stirrups! The loop help accentuates the heel which helps adds height to your frame!
4. Choose solid or subtle plaid prints
Since you’re already wearing an oversized blazer, I recommend choosing either a solid or subtle print. If you choose a busy a print for an oversized piece, it can overwhelm your frame. You’ll look leaner and taller with simpler prints/solid colors.
5. Play up your proportions with high waisted pants
Since I chose a long blazer, I paired it with high waisted jeans for two reasons: 1. It shows off my waist. 2. It elongates my legs. Choose a solid or darker pair of skinny or straight high waisted jeans to style your boyfriend blazer with.
6. Wear the oversized blazer with confidence
Honestly no matter how tall or short you are, if you wear the trend with confidence you’ll always look good. So please don’t be afraid of the oversized blazer or any other trend out there! You can wear maxi dresses ,jean skirts, and over the knee boots as a petite woman. You can make these trends work for your body and your style.
