Weee we’re finally experiencing spring in Seattle! As our days are getting longer and the temperature is getting warmer, swimsuit season is upon us! Fortunately, I’ve had the chance to get into a swimsuit with my trips to Coachella and LA/Orange County this month. I’m also excited to jump into a swimsuit and lay on the beach next week in Miami!
So what’s my swimsuit of choice this season? A one-piece!!
I bought my first one piece swimsuit (since I was kid) last summer. And this year I’ve bought two more…I’m officially a fan of one piece swimsuits so today I wanted to share four one piece swimsuit trends you can embrace this season!
4 Swimwear Trends for the One Piece Swimsuit
1. The Cutout One Piece Swimsuit
I’m absolutely loving cutout/illusion swimsuits this season! I especially love how this swimsuit looks like its two separates in the back, but it’s knotted in the front to make it a one piece. Cutout one piece swimsuits are a great way to show some skin and update a plain one piece.
If you typically love wearing bikinis but want to find try a one piece swimsuit, I would recommend looking for a cutout swimsuit.

2. The Stripes One Piece Swimsuit
Whether you love vertical or horizontal lines, stripes are a staple print that you can also wear to the beach or pool! Would you rather wear a colorful striped swimsuit or a black and white one? Personally, I would probably go for something bright and colorful!

3. The Tropical One Piece Swimsuit
If you love palm tree/palm leaves printed pieces, than you should definitely opt in for a tropical one piece swimsuit! There are so many good ones this year. So whether you love off the shoulder swimsuits or cutout ones, you have so many options to choose from!
I found my palm leaves printed swimsuit from Aerie/American Eagle Outfitters this year. Before I left for Coachella, I was on the HUNT for a bold swimsuit. So when I stumbled upon this yellow, palm leave printed swimsuit, I knew I NEEDED IT! You can check out my other favorite swimsuit here!

4. The Classic Solid Color One Piece Swimsuit
Maybe you’re the type of gal who doesn’t need palm tree leaves, florals, or stripes. There are so many classic solid one piece swimsuits out there! If you love the solid color but want to still have a twist or a flare, I’d recommend playing up the neckline. You can look for one piece swimsuits with a halter top, spaghetti straps, or even off the shoulder!

Now that we’ve discussed four different swimsuit trends you can embrace this season, here are a few tips for finding the RIGHT swimsuit for you! As a petite woman (5ft tall), I’m always thinking about how things fit. And before I bought a one piece swimsuit, my fear of how it would fit was very present.
4 Tips on Finding the Perfect One Piece Swimsuit:
1. Try it On
The easiest way to figure out whether a one piece swimsuit is going to look good or not is to go into the stores and personally try them on! This is how I found my first cut out swimsuit – I went into Aerie/American Eagle Outfitters and tried this on.
2. Try On Different Styles
If you’re already in the store, I’d recommend trying out a couple different styles – especially since you want the swimsuit to fit just right. I’ve tried things on that I absolutely loved on a hangar and then hated on me. And then I’ve tried things on that were initially questionable but then ended up looking great on. My advice would be to pick at least 3 different styles – maybe an off the shoulder, a cut out, and a halter? And then you can get an idea of what makes you feel the most confident!
3. See How it Looks on Others
If you don’t have the store nearby or don’t have the time to go into the store, my next piece of advice would be to see how it fits others. For instance, I’ve gone onto Instagram and searched the #AerieREAL to see how the swimsuits are fitting women all over Instagram. I’m 5ft tall so I guarantee a swimsuit may not fit me the way it fits a 5ft 8in model!
4. Read the Reviews
I don’t know about you, but I’m an avid review reader. Reading reviews is how I determine whether or not I try a new restaurant, coffee shop, and order a new item. I will give you a heads up that where will always be one or two negative reviews, but if the general consensus of the reviews is positive – then I would go ahead and buy it!
