Weeee! I’ve been having so much fun lately writing behind the scenes blog posts behind Coachella and the Picture Perfect Instagram post that I knew I needed to write one about the Museum of Ice Cream!
I tried to visit the Museum of Ice Cream in LA when I visited Southern California last month, but the museum was shut down for relocation. So I was stoked when I found out I was going to be able to visit the Museum of Ice Cream Miami with my new friend Sonya (hehe we met on Instagram!). And like every instagram-worthy experience, there is definitely more than meets the eye with this unique art experience.
Before I jump in about my Museum of Ice Cream experience, do you know what the Museum of Ice Cream is?
The Museum of Ice Cream is an interactive art exhibit where the guests can engage in candy/dessert themed rooms. The Museum of Ice Cream was founded by Maryelles Bunn and Manish Vora. These two came together t create an exhibition that appealed and connected to the millennial audience. The MOIC is all for all ages though. You have to purchase your ticket ahead of time and a specific time slot. The MOIC has opened in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami.
On my first day in Miami, I knew I needed to stop by the Museum of Ice Cream! My friend Sonya and I purchased tickets a week beforehand.
Here are 5 things Instagram doesn’t show you about the Museum of Ice Cream:
Behind the Scenes of the Museum of Ice Cream: Choose Your Ice Cream Name
Before we even entered the museum, the experience started when one of the MOIC greeters asked us that we had to provide an ice cream flavor name. Wait what?! I’ve never seen anyone share their ice cream flavor name on Instagram or their blog… I thought this was a great question to get us even more excited to enter the museum!
My ice cream name flavor was…. STRAWBERRY SPRINKLES! Why did I pick strawberry sprinkles? Because strawberry is one of my favorite flavors and I feel like my personality is colorful like sprinkles. Question: What would your ice cream flavor be and why??
Behind the Scenes of the Museum of Ice Cream: Strict Time in the Pool of Sprinkles
The pool of sprinkles is probably one of the most iconic and recognizable features about the Museum of Ice Cream. Whether your Kim Kardashian, Blue Ivy, or me, everyone wants to take a photo in the sprinkle pool.
One thing that surprised about the pool of sprinkles was that the time in the room was limited. When we first entered, we asked if we could wait for everyone to get out of the pool to take a photo. However we were informed that we had a time limit in the room – but we could spend all the time we wanted in the rest of the museum.
What you don’t see in that #MOIC #SprinklePool Instagram posts are the 5 other people crowded in the pool trying to take a photo. There was literally 5 of us at different edges of the pool trying to take a photo!
Behind the Scenes of the Museum of Ice Cream: Sweet Treats Along the Way
Another thing that surprised me about the Museum of Ice Cream was that we got sweet treats throughout the different rooms! I hadn’t eaten a meal since the night before, so these sugary treats tasted amazing LOL. We got a mini chocolate frosty with whipped cream and a pink cherry on top in the Bunns Shake Room. These mini treats came out in a conveyor belt! We also got a mini chocolate covered banana in the Safari Room. And we got a scoop of key lime pie ice cream on the roof top!
Behind the Scenes of the Museum of Ice Cream: Best MOIC Staff Ever!
When we first walked into the FAN-tastic room, we were greeted by an employee who taught us the Museum of Ice Cream Dance. We danced with her and then Sean Paul’s song Temperature came on. We literally were laughing and dancing to the song! I was so impressed by the Museum of Ice Cream staff.
From the moment we entered the museum to the moment we left, the staff was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and kind. The MOIC employees made the experience even better! So thank you to the MOIC staff for being enthusiastic and kind to all the visitors! Your customer service really stood out to me!
Behind the Scenes of the Museum of Ice Cream: 4 Stories of FUN
I couldn’t believe how BIG the entire Museum of Ice Cream was! We got to jump in the sprinkles pool, we got to eat a mini frosty in the Bunn Shake Room, we walked up colorful stairs to get to so many different themed rooms, and more! I literally thought it was just one big room…Besides the sprinkles pool, the roof top was by far my favorite floor. There was space to hula hoop, play ping pong, and lounge and enjoy the weather!
I thought the size of the museum was definitely big enough to accommodate tons of visitors. Also every wall was pretty much perfect for Instagram… so if you’re a blogger, youtuber, or a fan of Instagram, you’re going to love the Museum of Ice Cream!
Was the Museum of Ice Cream worth it?!
YES! I really do believe the ticket price is worth the entire experience! From how courteous the staff was, to all the different interactive exhibits, we had so much fun!
If you’re heading to the Museum of Ice Cream soon, here are a few tips to help you prep for your experience!
- Come with a camera: I personally just brought my iPhone 8 to take photos of our experience! There were handfuls of people though with DSLRs taking photos.
- Be prepared to wait in line to take photos: If you want to take a photo on the banana swing, you have to wait. If you want to take a photo on the popsicle installment, you have to wait. If you want to take a photo in the sprinkles pool, you kind of have to wait but its timed so you kind of wait, but end up jumping in to take a photo. We visited the Museum of Ice Cream on a Thursday afternoon and it wasn’t too busy, but we still had to wait to take photos at certain stops. It’s probably one of the most Instagrammable art exhibits I’ve ever been so just be patient with people as they take their photos so they’re patient with you when you take your photo!
- Have fun!: It’s not every day you get to jump into a pool of sprinkles or drink melted ice cream from a carton. Enjoy the exhibit and all the sweet treats!
Have you been to the Museum of Ice Cream yet? What was your favorite exhibit?!
Also shout out to my new friend Sonya from @sonyaxblade for meeting up with me for the first time ever last Thursday! We shot two looks together and took each other’s photos today for the Museum of Ice Cream. You can follow her YouTube Channel here!
Love,
Emma
I really wanted to visit this museum last month while I was already in LA visiting but was told it was closed for the season. Then I tried to get tickets for SF location but it was already sold out. 🙁 I do hope to make it some time though because it would be an experience! Love this behind the scenes post. It’s fun to know what to expect though you can never be too prepared right?!
