Today is my birthday! YAY! In honor of turning 27, I wanted
to share the 27 things I want to do at 27. Last year I wrote 26
things I want to do at 26, and even though I didn’t end up training for a
half marathon on continue making videos, I still did a lot of the things on my
list. I’m taking my 2nd UX research design class, I got to
experiment more with make up with brands like Bobbi Brown and Smashbox, and I
definitely had the time of my life at Coachella!
My goal for this year to make the most out of my 27th year and share these amazing experiences with you!

1 out of 27 Things: Ride on a Seaplane around Seattle
One of the things I’m dying to do this year is to ride a
seaplane from Kenmore
air. I would love to take scenic seaplane tour or Seattle or Mt. Rainier! I’ve
been watching the seaplanes take off and land in South Lake Union since I was a
freshman in college. I’d love to kick off my 27th year with a
seaplane ride!
2 out of 27 Things: Go Indoor Skydiving at iFlySeattle
with Brandon
Honestly I would be terrified to skydive in real life so I think
it would be so fun to go indoor skydiving! I had a friend from high school become
an indoor skydiving instructor. All of his videos at iFly facilities looked so
much fun!
3 out of 27 Things: Learn how to swim/Learn how to get comfortable in water
Okay guys please don’t laugh at me! I can kind of
backstroke/kind of swim on my back. But I’m not very comfortable in water. Two
summers ago, Brandon and I traveled to Cinque Terre with a few friends and we
went out to go swimming. I was floundering like a wet cat and Brandon saw how
freaked out I got…. I took swim lessons as a kid but I’m still not very comfortable
in water. My goal this year is just to be able to get out onto a lake, tread
water, and not freak out.
4 out of 27 Things: Catch a fish
Brandon loves to fish. Boone and I have watched him fish and
I think it would be fun this year if I actually went fishing with him. I’ve
never caught a fish so it’s on the bucket list!
5 out of 27 Things: See the Northern Lights
I’ve never been to Alaska but I’d love to visit to see the northern lights! I feel like I definitely need to see the Northern Lights at some point in my lifetime so I hope it’s this year.

6 out of 27 Things: Attend Oktoberfest in Leavenworth
I’ve never been to Leavenworth or celebrated Oktoberfest… so
I hope to do it this October!!
7 out of 27 Things: Go winetasting
Yes friends I’m 27 and I’ve never been wine tasting…. And I
live in Washington where we produce the 2nd most amount of wine next
to California. Where should I go wine tasting for the first time in my life?!
8 out of 27 Things: See the Grand Canyon
Last summer, Brandon and I got to see Zion National Park. It
was one of the most amazing places I’ve ever visited. We were pressed for time
so we want to go back and see the Grand Canyon this year!
9 out of 27 Things: Take a glassblowing class
I visited the Chihuly Garden & Glass Museum with a
visiting friend 2 years ago and was blown away. I think it would be fun to do a
glass blowing class so it’s on my list.
10 out of 27 Things: Attend the Pendleton Round Up for the first
time
Brandon’s grandparents live in Pendleton, Oregon and I got to visit and meet them this past year. We attended right after the Round Up. I’ve never been to a rodeo or a round up but I’d love to go with Brandon and his family this year!

11 out of 27 Things: Visit Magnolia Market in Waco
I LOVE Fixer Upper and Joanna Gaines is GOALS. I’m dying to
make a trip out to Waco. We’re heading to San Antonio next month and we’re
going to be pressed for time with my sister’s basic training graduation. So I
know we need to make another trip to Texas this year! I must see Magnolia
Farms!
12 out of 27 Things: Eat at a 5 course Restaurant
I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a 5 course restaurant or had a true 5 course meal. I think it would be fun to get dressed up and experience a 5 course meal with Brandon. For my Seattle/Washington friends, what restaurants would you recommend I visit?
13 out of 27 Things: Go to batting cage with Brandon
Brandon played baseball through college so I thought it
would be fun if we did a batting cage date together. We tried the Magnuson Park
batting cages last spring/summer but there were only 2 cages. So I’m hoping we
get to go to a batting cage and make a date out of it this spring!
14 out of 27 Things: Attend the Albuquerque
International Hot Air Balloon Festival
Visiting New Mexico and seeing the hot air balloon festival has been on my list these last few years. I’M DYING TO GO. I rode in a hot air balloon last fall with Oregon Wine Travel and I loved it! I’m putting this out into the universe now because I need to make this happen this year!
15 out of 27 Things: Create more Instagrammable Places
Guides
I absolutely loved making Instagram worthy guides for New York City, Pittsburgh, and Seattle in 2018. My goal for 2019 is to visit and create guides for Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Vancouver, CA!

16 out of 27 Things: Visit Japan, Singapore, and Paris for
the first time
Okay so Paris is a long shot…. But I am planning to visit
Japan this summer with Brandon. I’m also planning to go back to South East Asia
at the end of September to visit one of my best friends in Singapore! If the universe
will allow it, I would love to also see Paris!
17 out of 27 Things: Find a field of sunflowers this summer
I was dying to find a field of sunflowers last summer! I
think I may need to drive on the other side of the state to field sunflowers,
but I’m committed to finding a field of sunflowers this year!
18 out of 27 Things: Get back into YouTube and make videos
Getting on YouTube has been on my list for YEARS. I started
making videos last Jan/Feb and completely fell off after a few months. I love
coming up with ideas for videos and I’m comfortable being on camera. My pain
point is editing… I need to find a friend to show me how to make the editing
process easier!
19 out of 27 Things: Go on a train ride
Friends I’m 27 and I’ve never been on train ride! I feel
like it would be so fun to take a train ride to Portland or Vancouver. Hi Amtrak! Let me know if you’d like
to work together hehe!
20 out of 27 Things: Take a pasta making class
I recently started watching Salt Fat Acid Heat on Netflix. On the very first episode Samin (the host of the show) is in Italy and shows us how to make pasta from scratch. I’m not much of a cook but making pasta looked like a lot of fun. Are there any pasta making classes in Seattle out there?

21 out of 27 Things: Write an article for an online
publication
One thing I’ve been wanting to do these past two years is to
contribute an article for an online publication like Refinery 29 or Seattle
Magazine. I’d love to start contributing articles once I finish up school this
year.
22 out of 27 Things: Graduate with my Masters of Communication
in Digital Media
I recently registered for my last quarter of my graduate
program (which is crazy). I’ll be graduating from my master’s program this
June! I’ve been working towards my degree for the last year and a half so I’m
excited to wrap up my classes this year.
23 out of 27 Things: Triple amount the readers on Emma’s
Edition
Last year when I wrote my 26 Things I want to do at 26 blog
post, I had made it a goal to triple the amount of readers I had for Emma’s
Edition. At the time, I had 2000 unique monthly visitors so my goal was to
bring in 6,000 visitors.
In Feb of 2019, I’m driving 13,000 unique visitors (15,000 unique sessions). So I hit my goal last year (YAY!) and this year I’m hoping to triple the amount of visitors again. One of my blog goals this year is drive 39,000 visitors a month!
24 out of 27 Things: Mentor other women
Mentorship has been vital to my career at Boeing so far. I seriously don’t know what I would have done without my mentor Karen this year. She helped me navigate the promotion process and the next step in my career.
I’m hoping to pass on the lessons I’ve learned so far in my blog and professional career by mentoring other young women when I graduate from school.
25 out of 27 Things: Buy a new laptop and a new camera
I’ve had the same laptop and same camera since 2015. I want to get serious about YouTube and creating videos this year so I absolutely need to stop putzing around and buy a new camera and laptop. I’m thinking of finally making the switch to Macbook…

26 out of 27 Things: Start designing my content strategy
class
One thing I hope to create for Emma’s Edition these next 1-2 years is a content strategy class. I’ve learned so much in my graduate program that directly helped me create content for Emma’s Edition. I’m hoping to take all the lessons I’ve learned in and out of the classroom to help other bloggers and creatives learn how to create content consistently for their platforms.
27 out of 27 Things: Love my family, friends, boyfriend, and
dog more
I’m incredible thankful for family, friends, Brandon and Boone who support my dreams and aspirations. I hope to spend more time with them and show them all that I appreciate them all!

Thank you for reading! Do you make a bucket list for your
birthday too?
Sincerely,
Emma

these are great, Emma! if you do end up making a trip to Magnolia, I would recommend going to Dallas/Fort Worth and renting a car for a day trip to Magnolia! it is very cool as a Fixer Upper fan but there’s not ~that much to do. The Dallas area is so fun though and it’s only a 1.5 hour drive!
I love these kinds of bucket lists!

I do and I don’t. When hubby and I create goals at the end of the year, we create them for specific categories. You know couple goals, individual, financial, travel, etc. So I don’t normally set goals during my birthday. I can relate to water and swimming. I can swim laps, no problem but I can’t tread water to save my life and once I am on deeper water, you better believe I am freaking out! I would love to visit the Northern Lights too as well as Japan. My uncle was stationed there when he was in the Navy but I was too young to really remember much of our travels there. All I know where the vending machine and they had the cool toys that you can assemble. Love those!

Happy Birthday, Emma! Twenty-seven is such a fun age and I have no doubt you’ll do all of these and more in your 27th year!
Can’t wait for more of your Instagram guides! They are so helpful!
Awesome list! I just created a super similar list of 30 things I hope to do before I am 30! We have a lot of similar items on our list.
About a year ago, I came across this pasta making class in Seattle! https://saltyseattle.com/workshops I haven’t been, but it looks very fun and colorful!
Also, Stocker Farms in Snohomish has a great sunflower field in the late summer/ early fall!
Cheers,
