How to Pose with Friends: 10 Ideas You and Your BFFs Can Try
1. Take a seat

If some of your friends 5 ft 10 in and some of your friends are 5 ft tall like me, taking a seat can help even out the height in photos. My friends and I love to mix in sitting photos to help add variety to our photo shoots.

2. Blow bubbles

My friend Giulia, Karya, and I recently took a long weekend trip to San Francisco. We made our obligatory stop at the Golden Gate Bridge and wanted to create a more fun, interesting photo. Giulia decided to bring bubbles to the bridge and the photos turned out so cute!

3. Grab coffee together

Coffee dates have become a staple for my friends and I. We love looking for adorable coffee shops at every city we stop by! I was so excited that we got to stop by Home cafe in San Francisco. The birthday café latte was yummy and adorable.

4. Put your arms around each other

If you’re looking for an easy pose with friends, putting your arms on each other’s shoulders is simple and comfortable to do. Giulia, Karya and I were literally walking around the city when we found this street in San Francisco’s Chinatown. We couldn’t resist a BFF inspired picture!

5. Walk through a flower field

Last month, my friend Maddy and I traveled up to Mount Vernon for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. We put together 6 Flower Field Photo Shoot Ideas to Try. If you and your friends are heading to a sunflower or lavender field this summer, walking or skipping through the rows of flowers is an easy way to pose with each other!
6. Whip your hair back and forth together

If you and your best friend are wanting to add movement to
your photos, you can always whip your hair back and forth. It might take a few
shots to get this picture right, but it always turns out so cute once you get
the shot.
7. Link arms

If there are more than two of you in the photo, linking arms can be a great pose to have the entire group engaged for the photo. This is one of my go to poses for all my friend photos.

8. Walk up the stairs together

Another way to add movement in your group photos is to walk
up the stairs. My advice would be to stagger which steps you and your friends
are on. The stairs add symmetry and framing and your staggered positions make
the photo even more interesting.
9. Throw up your peace signs

I’ve been throwing up my peace sign with my friends since as a kid. Peace signs and group shots still work really well together!

10. Hold hands

You probably learned how to hold your parents or best friends’ hands as a kid. Well this pose still works really well for best friend photo shoots and group photo shoots. Maddy and I held hands in the flower fields while Giulia and I held hands in front of this adorable pink house in San Francisco.

I am so glad you had a great time in SF. It’s such a beautiful city and I love visiting whenever I can. These poses are so fun! I love how the blowing bubbles photo turned out. I’ll have to try this one. I am sure my son will love it!

These are so helpful! For me it is hard sometimes to come up with new things to do and now I’ve got some ideas 🙂
Very cute idea. As a photographer it’s always important to have friends more touchy than they normally would be for the sake of photos. What looks good in a photograph doesn’t always feel normal IRL. piggy back rides are a very silly but fun way as well to interact on camera. I wouldn’t suggest it for nice outfits though, ha!
