Hi everyone! I feel like I shared we got engaged in October ( read our engagement story here, went venue shopping in November, and then the holiday season hit and wedding planning went over to the wayside.
But it’s officially 2020 which means we’re getting married this year! Wedding planning is back at the top of our priority list and I wanted to share a few big things for our January wedding update.
Here is our January Wedding Update:
1. We picked a date!
We’re going to get married on Saturday September 26th 2020. Brandon and I wanted a fall wedding and we were surprised that the first two weeks of October were already booking up for most venues (apparently 10-10-2020 wedding date is really popular this upcoming year).
Brandon and I were open to September and October so when we found
out our venue still had the very end of September open, we selected Saturday
Sept 26th.
We also found out that weekend in September is the last
weekend of the Evergreen State Fair in Puyallup. We’ve been telling our friends
and family that it might be fun to go to the fair either the following day or
sometime during the wedding week!
2. We picked a venue
Our wedding is going to be at Farm 12 in Puyallup, WA. Both Brandon and I
grew up in Washington so we knew we wanted to have the wedding in state to have
most of our family and friends attend.
Why we chose Farm 12:
Brandon and I learned that Farm 12 is ran by a non-profit
organization called Step by Step. This non-profit org bought the original Van
Lierop Bulb Farm in 2015 from the Van Lierop Family. The Van Lierop family
originally owned and operated a flower farm from 1934-2005.
The Step by Step organization supports low income and
at-risk mothers and families. The non-profits headquarters are at Farm 12 as
well as a family counseling and educational center. Step by Step also has their
job training and workforce preparation facility and a culinary training
program.
Brandon and I learned that after costs were paid out, the rest of the proceeds from our wedding would go directly to supporting the non-profit. We loved this about this venue!

3. We picked our wedding colors
We decided on navy blue, blush pink, and sage green as an accent. We found our colors on Pinterest.

4. We selected our wedding party.
We’ve decided to have 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen. I’ve let
my bridesmaids know and gifted them their bridesmaid box (I need to write a
blog post on what I included in the box!).
5. Our engagement photos are planned for next weekend
We we’re originally going to shoot our engagement photos on
Saturday December 21st. But Seattle had a huge storm hit… it didn’t
stop raining for 3 days and we had to drive over Snoqualmie Pass that weekend.
We decided to cancel our photo shoot and reschedule to next weekend: January 11th
2020.
6. I’m hunting for a wedding dress
I went dress shopping at Dress Theory in Wallingford with
three of my bridesmaids last month. It was my first time trying on dresses and
I was surprised at the styles I really liked. I thought I was going to love everything
beaded and everything lace, but I ended up really liking the dresses with less
frills.
I found out the fit and flare silhouette worked for me best! I’m going to try on dresses again when Desiree Hartsock Pop Up comes to Seattle in a couple of weeks. I met Desiree a couple of years ago at a blogger event so I’m excited to see her again!
Here are a few wedding dresses I’ve tried on:

What’s on my January Wedding To-Do List:
- Send out Save the Dates before the end of the month
- Find a tux sponsor – Brandon let me know that he really wants to keep his wedding tux so I’m currently searching for a tux sponsor.
- Find a wedding dress
- Launch our wedding website – I’ve been waiting to do this because I need our engagement photos first.
- Research wedding photographers
- Research florists
- Research DJs

That’s all for now friends! I’ll be doing a monthly wedding update leading up to our wedding. Thank you for reading our January wedding update!
Love,
Emma
I am uber the moon excited for your upcoming wedding Emma. It’s going to be spectacular I just know it!
