The PRESENT IS FEMALE! #inaugurationday2021 #thefutureisfemale #thepresentisfemale
It’s inauguration day! For the first time in US history, we have a Black and South Asian American Woman as Vice President. Kamala Harris is a daughter of immigrants. She is the first Indian American to serve as a U.S. senator and the second African American woman (Carol Mosely Braun was the first African American woman to serve as a U.S. senator in 1992).
Today, Kamala Harris takes one of the highest seats in our nation and makes history. While she’s more than just a symbol, she’s showing brown and black girls everywhere that there is SPACE for us leadership and in government.
As a daughter of immigrants, a brown woman, a South-East Asian, Filipino-American woman, I will REMEMBER this day for the rest of my life. What a moment in history for women, for women of color, for black women, for immigrants, and what a moment for America.
To celebrate this day, I hope you enjoy these photos of my friend Ribicca and I! It’s been a while since we’ve shot together, and we had so much fun taking these photos. We were inspired to style an all-white look after seeing Kamala Harris’s outfit in November 2020 during the end of election week.
Our photos were taken by our friend Doug Ta’a in Seattle, Washington.
The Present is Female: Celebrating Inauguration Day 2021
Funny story: the champagne bottle actually didn’t pop when we opened it! I had to shake up the bottle to get this shot. Our facial expressions were trying to be excited but we genuinely screamed when the champagne came fizzing out of the bottle.
We truly hope you enjoyed this photo series! After seeing Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, Jill Biden, and Joe Biden’s daughters monochrome outfits from today’s inauguration ceremony, I think we need to do another photo series.
Which monochrome look do you think we should recreate next?
