It’s officially my birthday week! And I’m so excited to reflect and share how 28 was and how I’m looking forward to turning 29. With my birthday just around the corner, I was inspired by my creative best friend Maddy to put together birthday photo shoot ideas.

After all these years celebrating my birthday on Emma’s Edition, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t put together a birthday posing guide. From confetti to balloon arches, I hope these birthday posing ideas help you for your next birthday photo shoot! All these photos were shot at home, so if you’re looking for indoor photo shoot ideas, this blog post is also for you!

I wanted to give a special shout out to Confete Party Box for creating this amazing balloon arch and Pastel Cakes for this beautiful birthday cake. If you’re looking to set up a birthday party, I recommend checking out these two local businesses out. Both reside in the Greater Seattle area.

8 Birthday posing ideas you can try:

1.Toss up balloons in bed

One way to add movement to your birthday photo shoot is by gentle tossing up balloons in bed. Balloons on the bed, helium balloons on the ceiling, and then tossing up an air blown balloon adds layers to your shot.

2.Blow or toss paper confetti towards the camera

If you’re wanting to add texture and cool effect to your photos, I recommend blowing paper confetti towards the camera. For an extra layer of confetti, Maddy threw up additional confetti to fill the frame.

3. Play with your dress

If you aren’t sure what to do with your hands, you can always grab the edge or the hem of your dress. I ordered this tulle dress for this birthday photo shoot.

4. Exchange gifts with a friend

Fun fact: this isn’t actually a real gift. I wrapped up empty Amazon boxes in fun, festive wrapping paper to use as a prop for these photos.

5. Hold a stack of presents

Again, I took empty Amazon boxes and wrapped them up in colorful wrapping paper. This is an easy way to get a stack of presents for your birthday photo shoot!

6. Hold up your birthday invitations

If you’re looking for an easy birthday posing idea, I recommend using birthday invitations for one of your photos. You can find really cute invitations at your local grocery stores or even online. I decorated my coffee table and leaned on it to show off my birthday invitations.

7. Pose with your birthday cake

If you’re looking for a beautiful birthday cake in the Greater Seattle area, I recommend checking out @pastelcakesbakery. She’s located in Kent, and she delivers from Seattle to Tacoma. You can check her website out: https://www.pastelcakesbakery.com/.

8. Rest your elbow on a stack of presents at the table

If you’re looking to capture your whole birthday set up, I recommend bringing the stack of presents at the coffee table. You can place your elbow on it and have your cake positioned in front of you. You’ll be able to see your balloon arch in the background (if you have one) and your invitations on the table.
