Beautiful blue skies, sunshine, 80 degrees? Is it actually fall? A year ago, I would be wearing dark jeans, a knit sweater, maybe a scarf, and of course a new fall coat. This year is a little different. I’ve still got that cozy knit sweater, but I’m layering in a much different way.

I’m embracing this eternal summer we call fall in Southern California with a new take on layering. I’ve traded my blue jeans for a blue and white polka dotted romper. I’ve added a light knit cream sweater that’s perfect for the cooler nights of fall. Layering is all about contrasting and complementing fabrics, graphics, and textures. Though my layers are a lot lighter, I’m still contrasting the softness of the sweater with a bold polka dotted print. If you’re living in a warmer place like me this fall, try pairing your very own knit with your own bold print of choice. Prints like polka dots are timeless. Tribal, chevron, and floral prints would also be fun to work with.I finished off the look with my favorite new chunky heels and my vintage Dooney & Bourke purse.
